Quote: "Play...is probably the most overlooked aspect in understanding how learning functions in culture" (pg. 97).
Explanation: Playing is absolutely essential to learning! How did we learn how to share and take turns? GAMES!!!! We need to make sure that we try to bring some excitement into our lessons and use things like Kahoot! to engage our students.
Question: How do I make sure that my students see that the "work" part of play is important and doesn't make it any less fun?
Connection: I made connections to some of the past classes that I had in school when some teachers would have us create board games based on novels we were reading! Or when we would play different games like Jeopardy as test review.
Epiphany: Use of games and play brings us closer to the information. It makes deeper connections in our minds to the information so that it sinks in.
Ch. 8
Quote: “The richness of experience and social agency produced by hanging out and the sense of embodiment and personal agency created by messing around, combined with the sense of making, produces what we think is the ultimate goal of indwelling; learning” (104)
Question: How can I apply these typologys in my future classroom?
Connection: I connected to this chapter because we are working on all of these topics in class! Helped me to understand the methods behind the madness a little better.
Epiphany: The epiphany definitely goes along with the connection that I made.
Ch. 9
Quote: "And where imaginations play, learning happens" (118).
Question: Alright, now where do I go from here with the information gained in this book?
Connection: I know that when I am able to use my own kind of creative thinking to dissect topics it really helps to teach me the information better. Creating things, playing games, etc. I hope to help my students to learn in this way.
Epiphany: There are no boundaries to learning! We just need to be (our favorite F word!!!) FLEXIBLE!!!!!!!
